Paralympic rabbit breeding method
In recent years, the breeding of Rex rabbits has faced significant challenges. Typically, a Rex rabbit is raised from birth to slaughter, and it takes more than 150 days to reach market weight. However, during the hot summer months, breeding is often paused because the quality of the fur does not meet grading standards, making it unsuitable for sale. This issue has been a major concern for farmers. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the price of rabbit pelts has continued to decline. One key reason is that the fur quality often fails to meet acquisition standards, leading to losses for breeders.
Research has shown that malnutrition in Rex rabbits is one of the main causes of this problem. Recently, experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Science and Technology Deep Blue Science and Technology Co., Ltd. have developed a third-generation biotechnology product specifically for Rex rabbits. These products are designed to improve feeding efficiency without the use of antibiotics. By adding just 1% of the feed supplement per 50 kilograms of feed, the digestive system of the rabbits is optimized, allowing them to absorb nutrients more effectively and balance their diet. This leads to faster growth, thicker and flatter fur, and better compliance with skin grading standards.
Additionally, breeders can simplify their procedures by using only three injections—long-acting Veracore, anti-recoil, and pasteurized vaccines—to manage parasites and coccidia throughout the entire breeding cycle. No additional anticoccidial drugs are needed in the diet.
When selecting high-quality breeds and maintaining good hygiene, proper management of mating and pregnant females is essential. Here are some key practices to follow at each stage:
**Mother and Child Separation:**
After giving birth, the mother should be separated from the young during the lactation period. This ensures both the mother and the offspring have a stable environment, which supports the growth of the kits and helps the mother maintain good milk production.
**Feeding Treasure for Rabbits:**
Rabbits begin eating solid food between 16 to 18 days old. At this stage, their digestive systems are still developing, making them prone to diarrhea. The feeding treasure helps regulate digestion, protect the intestinal lining, and boost immunity, laying a strong foundation for healthy growth.
**Weaning Injections:**
On day 35, a long-acting inosine injection (0.1 ml) is given to each rabbit. At 45 days, two injections of 0.1 ml each are administered along with two pasteurized vaccines. After this, no anticoccidial drugs are needed during the rest of the growing phase.
**Free Access to Feed and Water:**
To support rapid growth after weaning, young rabbits should have continuous access to specially formulated feed and water. This method improves growth rates compared to traditional feeding techniques.
**Low Light Fattening:**
Once the rabbits reach 1.75 kg, they are placed individually in cages under low-light conditions. This mimics their natural nocturnal behavior, encouraging frequent feeding and promoting faster growth. By 100 days old, they can weigh between 2.5 kg and 3 kg.
**Two Provinces High Method:**
Breeding experience shows that using a three-needle and two-hundred-day feeding approach results in lower costs, shorter feeding time, and higher survival rates. It also reduces disease incidence and improves fur quality, significantly boosting overall breeding efficiency.
