Paralympic rabbit breeding method

In the traditional rabbit farming system, a Rex rabbit typically takes over 150 days to reach slaughter weight. However, breeding is often halted during the hot summer months because the quality of the fur deteriorates, making it unsuitable for grading and sale. This issue has been a major challenge for farmers. Since the start of the 21st century, the price of rabbit pelts has continued to drop, mainly due to poor fur quality that fails to meet purchasing standards. As a result, farmers have faced increasing losses. Studies have shown that malnutrition in Rex rabbits is a key factor contributing to this problem. Recently, experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in biotechnology and nutrition specialists from Beijing Science and Technology Deep Blue Science and Technology Co., Ltd. developed a third-generation biotech product and specialized feed additives designed specifically for Rex rabbits. These supplements are free from antibiotics, with just 1% added to every 50 kg of feed. This helps maintain the rabbits' digestive health, improves nutrient absorption, and balances their diet. As a result, growth cycles are shortened, and the fur becomes thick and even, meeting the first or second-grade skin standards. Additionally, the feeding process has become simpler. Farmers only need to administer three injections—long-acting Veracore, anti-stress agents, and pasteurized vaccines—to protect rabbits throughout the entire rearing period. These injections effectively eliminate internal and external parasites as well as coccidia, eliminating the need for additional anticoccidial drugs in the feed. Under good breeding conditions, proper hygiene, and careful management of mating and pregnant does, several key steps should be taken: **Mother and Child Separation** After birth, the mother and her offspring should be separated during the lactation period and fed regularly. This creates a stable environment for both the mother and the kits, promoting better growth and milk production. **Feeding Treasure** Rabbits begin to eat solid food at 16–18 days old. At this stage, their digestive systems are still developing, making them prone to diarrhea. The feeding treasure supplement helps regulate digestion, protect the intestinal lining, and boost immunity, laying a strong foundation for healthy growth. **Weaning Injections** On day 35, each rabbit receives a long-acting injection of inosine (0.1 ml). At 45 days, they receive two injections of pasteurized vaccines (1 ml total). This method eliminates the need for anticoccidial drugs during the entire rearing period. **Free Access Feeding** After weaning, young rabbits should have unrestricted access to specially formulated feed and water. This approach supports faster growth compared to traditional methods. **Low Light Fattening** When rabbits weigh around 1.75 kg, they are placed individually in cages under low-light conditions. This mimics their natural nocturnal behavior, encouraging frequent feeding and faster growth. By 100 days old, they can reach weights between 2.5 kg and 3 kg. **Two-Province High Yield Method** Farmers have found that using the "three-needle and two-hundred-day" method significantly reduces costs, saves time, and increases survival rates. It also leads to better-quality pelts, greatly improving overall breeding efficiency.
