Pay close attention to the control of bacterial leaf spot of pepper
Bacterial leaf spot of pepper, caused by *Pseudomonas syringae*, is a common bacterial disease that affects pepper crops. The pathogen spreads through wind, rain, and irrigation water, and typically enters the plant through wounds on the leaves. The disease tends to become active between July and August, especially in warm and humid conditions.
This disease primarily affects the leaves of chili plants. In the adult stage, small, yellow-green, water-soaked lesions appear on the leaves. As the disease progresses, these spots enlarge and turn reddish-brown or dark brown, often resembling rust. The lesions are thin and membranous, varying in size. The disease spreads rapidly, and in severe cases, it can cause widespread defoliation, significantly reducing yield and plant health.
To manage bacterial leaf spot, it's important to drain excess water from the field after rainfall to reduce humidity. Increasing the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can help strengthen the plant’s resistance. For chemical control, farmers can use 10% difenoconazole water dispersible granules diluted at 2000 times, 72% agricultural streptomycin soluble powder at 3000 times, or 3% Bacterin wettable powder at 1500 times. These solutions should be applied evenly, with spraying repeated every 2-3 days for a total of 7-10 days. Early intervention is crucial to prevent severe damage and ensure healthy crop growth.
