It’s incredible… right now, as I’m sitting here in the late evening, with dark skies, heavy rain, and thunder rolling outside—literally flooding the streets—it's a bright and sunny day somewhere else. Like Hawaii, for instance. Six hours behind me in time zones, and what a difference that makes! We just came back from an amazing vacation that included my brother’s wedding, a communion on the capital steps of Hawaii, and all sorts of exciting adventures like parasailing, rock jumping, hiking, and sightseeing. Oh, and plenty of beach and pool time—my favorite part by far. The six-hour time change made adjusting to the local time a bit of an adventure, and coming back home was even more challenging. For example, over the past few nights, my husband and I have been staying up until 3 or 4 AM, and still managing to wake up early. Hmmm… maybe I should wrap this blog up and try to get some sleep tonight. We’ll see. What I love most about family vacations is that we’re all together, sharing the fun and the tired moments. It was so great to see our family bond and enjoy each other’s company. It was especially sweet to watch my daughter experience things we don’t have in Michigan, like big ocean waves. She was adorable when she woke up every morning, pointing at the door and saying “wawa!” (which means water, of course). She couldn’t wait to splash in the beach, the pool, or any puddle she could find. This trip really reminded us how much we missed our own pool, and now we’re excited to open it for the summer. June, I’m so glad you’re here. I tend to get carried away sometimes, but watching Aliyah have so much fun and learn new things made me realize how easy it is to get caught up in bills, distractions, and gossip, and forget to appreciate the simple joys in life. So here’s my message: find joy in the little things. Learn from babies. Go green. (Okay, maybe that last one was a bit random—but I got carried away with the excitement of writing!)
