Harvesting of Houttuynia cordata and its use

Harvesting and processing: During the first year after planting, the plant was harvested only once in the autumn. In the second year, two harvests were conducted—once in June and again in the autumn. When harvesting, the entire plant was cut at ground level to remove any impurities. After cutting, the plants were thoroughly washed and then dried properly. On average, one mu (approximately 667 square meters) could yield between 70 to 100 kilograms of dried herb. Uses: This herb is used as a whole plant in traditional medicine. It has strong detoxifying properties and is effective in reducing swelling and promoting urine flow. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as phlegm accumulation, pneumonia, lung abscesses, fevers, malaria, edema, gonorrhea, and sores. Its medicinal value makes it a popular remedy in herbal treatments for various infections and inflammatory conditions. The plant is often prepared as a decoction or applied externally depending on the ailment. Due to its broad-spectrum effects, it is widely utilized in traditional Chinese and other folk medicine systems.
