Fruit tree pruning saws cleverly bandaged

In winter, it's crucial to prune and trim fruit trees to ensure their long-term productivity and health. Proper pruning not only helps maintain the tree's shape but also promotes better fruit yield and prevents diseases. However, when large branches are removed using a saw, it can create significant wounds, known as kerfs. If these wounds are not properly treated, they may not heal correctly, leading to serious issues such as tree decay or even death in severe cases. From practical experience, applying a mud coating after cutting has proven to be highly effective. After shaping the tree during winter or early spring, any large cuts should be addressed immediately. Using a trowel, the bark and xylem around the cut should be gently flattened. Then, the sawdust is mixed with a thin layer of mud and applied to the wound. This helps seal the cut and protect it from external damage. Following that, wrap the area with plastic film—about 0.08 mm thick, which is flexible and long-lasting. This wrapping prevents rainwater from entering and reduces the risk of cracking, giving the tree more time to heal naturally. Studies have shown that this method achieves a 100% healing rate for the treated wounds, with an average callus width of 8.8 mm. Importantly, no cases of fruit tree rot were observed. The cost is remarkably low—only 0.2 yuan per square meter. When the cut is wrapped with plastic, the mud retains moisture, creating an ideal environment for the tree to recover. This technique is not only economical but also easy to implement, making it a valuable practice for both small-scale and commercial orchards. By following this simple yet effective procedure, growers can significantly improve the survival and productivity of their fruit trees.
