New Zealand company StretchSense introduced a wearable sensor at the WT conference in Munich. Dr Ben O'Brien, the company's CEO, said the fiber sensor is rugged, precise, and small, and is barely visible in the clothing. O'Brien said: "The tension suppression mechanism we developed means that the sensor can't extend beyond the maximum stretch range. Therefore, users wearing the sensor can participate in any intense exercise." Fiber sensors can be used in medical devices or motion capture healthcare industry. O'Brien said the company also proposed ways to monitor movements and capture actor avatars without the need to use expensive cameras or controlled settings. The StretchSense fiber sensor sends real-time motion data via Bluetooth and presents information on the smartphone app. O'Brien said: "In the beginning, we hope that fiber sensors can be active in the health and sports wearable technology market, but as more and more people from different fields experience, new opportunities are constantly emerging." Munich's WT conference attracted more than 80,000 people, and they got news from the wearable technology market leaders, including Adidas, Intel, Flextronics, and Chinese network services company Baidu.
