Japan's new cattle breeding technology

First, a breakthrough in twin embryo breeding technology has been developed. Traditionally, the process involved using a scalpel to split fertilized eggs, but this method often damaged the delicate membrane surrounding the egg due to its high elasticity. Recently, researchers at Japan's Tohoku Agricultural Experimentation Field have introduced a safer and more effective technique. They create a tiny 30-micrometer hole in the transparent membrane of the fertilized egg. As the cell divides, the membrane stretches through the hole, forming a teardrop-like shape. Once the cells growing out reach about half the size of the original egg, a new embryo can be carefully separated from the membrane. This improved method has boosted the twin breeding rate from 10% to as high as 50%, significantly increasing efficiency and reducing damage to the embryos.

Second, the use of calcium fatty acids has shown promising results in boosting milk production in dairy cows. Studies conducted by the Ho Chi Minh Feeding Institute in Hokkaido, Japan, revealed that adding calcium fatty acids to cattle feed can lead to a significant increase in milk yield. In an experiment involving 12 trials, 2.2% of fatty acid calcium was added to the feed over a 105-day period. The results showed that the average daily milk production increased by 7.5 kg compared to the control group. This makes fatty acid calcium a cost-effective and efficient supplement for dairy farmers looking to improve productivity while maintaining animal health.

These advancements highlight the importance of innovative techniques in both reproductive biology and animal nutrition. By refining traditional methods and introducing new additives, scientists are helping to enhance agricultural efficiency and sustainability. Whether it's improving the success rate of twin births or increasing milk output, such research plays a crucial role in meeting the growing demands of the global food industry.
