Diagnosis and treatment of infectious atrophic rhinitis

In late June, a pig farm in Longyi County purchased 55 piglets from other places. Seven days after purchase, individual piglets were depressed and feed intake decreased, and five pigs developed symptoms such as sneezing and nasal discharge, followed by individual piglet noses. , facial abnormalities, and gradually infected other piglets. The local veterinarian treated with a cold and used penicillin, streptomycin, arsonidine, sulfadiazine and other drugs to treat the disease. The infected pigs spread throughout the group. After being diagnosed and treated in the Xingtai City Veterinary Hospital, it was diagnosed as porcine contagious atrophic rhinitis. Except for 3 piglets with severe symptoms, all other piglets recovered.

First, clinical symptoms

Porcine atrophic rhinitis is a chronic contagious disease caused by Borrelia bronchiseptica with rhinitis, turbinate bone deformation, and atrophy. The disease occurs mostly in piglets aged 2 to 5 months and is mainly transmitted by direct and droplets. This time the herd of pigs was mainly purchased from infected piglets from other places. Coupled with poor feeding and management, the pig house was damp and crowded, which prompted the occurrence and aggravation of the disease. Sick piglets first sneeze and stuffy nose, breathing nasal, nasal flow of a small amount of liquid or purulent mucus, followed by shaking his head, arching, rubbing or rubbing the nose and so on. The nasal mucosa is flushed and congested, with serous, viscous, or purulent bloody nasal discharge from the nasal passages with sneezing, sometimes with squeaking. The pigs with prolonged disease course had facial deformity, skewed or upturned, difficulty in breathing, delayed growth, and low feed conversion rate.

Second, necropsy lesions

The necropsy of a sick and weak pig with obvious symptoms and deformed nasal area shows that the sinus mucosa is inflamed, mucus is accumulated in the sinus cavity, and the bone around the nasal cavity becomes loose. In the cross section of the nose, the turbinate is abdomen curled, the septum is bent, and the septum is slightly deformed. There is mucus nose in the cavity.

Third, laboratory diagnosis

1. Bacteria isolation culture. The nasal mucus of the infected pigs was collected on cotton swabs and inoculated on a blood agar medium. The results were observed after constant temperature incubation at 37° C. for 48 hours. The colonies grown on the blood agar culture medium were milky yellow, smooth surface, neat edges, center uplift, and stickiness. Flat, hemolyzed beta-formed colonies. Gram staining, microscopy, see a lot of short-term Brevibacterium, Gram-negative bacteria.

2. Biochemical tests. Colonies were picked, and purely cultured for biochemical identification. The bacteria did not ferment carbohydrates and could decompose urea. The VP test was negative, the oxidase was positive, and citrate could be used. The milk of lactarius was alkaline and formed on semi-solid medium. Funnel-like, trisaccharide iron is poorly grown and does not produce hydrogen sulfide. The immune serum agglutination test was positive.

In summary, the diagnosis was confirmed as swine atrophic rhinitis.

Fourth, prevention and control measures

1. Strengthen feeding management. Feed full price feeds, increase multi-vitamins and trace elements; farms are completely sterilized with Green Weapon disinfectant once a day for 10 days; sick pigs are rapidly isolated and treated, and severely ill pigs are eliminated for harmless treatment.

2. Treatment. (1) The pigs were intramuscularly injected with Baishun injection (main ingredient: Lomefloxacin, etc.) at a dose of 0.2 ml/kg body weight twice a day for 3 days. (2) Hong Guang Bao (main ingredient: kanamycin, etc.), 0.2 ml per kilogram of body weight, 2 times a day for 3 days.

3. In the whole group of pigs, the contents of the feed were mixed with asthma (main component: ciprofloxacin, etc.) at a dose of 1 gram per kilogram of body weight for 5 days. Simultaneous application of herbal remedies, prescriptions: 40 grams of yam, phellodendron, anemarrhena, Pinellia, each of medlar, astragalus, angelica, cocklebur fruit, burdock root, and 15 grams of Platycodon grandiflora, white peony root, dry stem, Ophiopogon japonicus and licorice 10 grams, after the crushed mix feed, according to the amount of 3 grams per kilogram of body weight, 2 doses. The sick pigs were fed and used for 5 days. By adopting the above comprehensive prevention and control measures, only 3 piglets with severe symptoms were treated on the same day. The symptoms of the sick pigs were greatly reduced on the second day and the sick pigs returned to normal on the third day. After 5 days, the herds recovered completely.

Five, summary

1. Antibiotic treatment can significantly reduce the severity of infection in infected pigs. The early infection can be cured if it can be treated promptly.

2. The combination of Chinese and Western medicine treatment, the application of Qingrejiedu, Huayu, Tongyu Chinese herbal medicine, the effect is satisfactory.
