ADI introduces two new inertial sensors for industrial and medical instrumentation applications

Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI) recently introduced two new inertial sensors, the ADIS16405 and ADIS16300, for complex motion and navigation control at a reasonable price in a variety of applications, including medical instruments. Expanded its award-winning iSensorTM line of smart sensors. The ADIS16405 six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) inertial measurement unit (IMU) incorporates a simple high-performance three-axis magnetometer sensor that can be used to improve heading accuracy. The ADIS16300 four-degree-of-freedom (4DoF) IMU has an industry-leading price that is only one-tenth the price of other similar products.

About the ADIS16405 iSensor Smart Sensor

The ADIS16405 complete inertial detection system, designed with ADI's top iMEMS® Motion Signal Processing TechnologyTM, integrates a three-axis gyroscope, magnetometer and accelerometer. The embedded magnetometer provides high heading accuracy and complements the product's excellent response and short-term stability.

Unlike many IMU products that are less integrated and require a high degree of user calibration, all the necessary motion detection and calibration of the ADIS16405 is done in the factory, which means that the system integration time is greatly reduced, and the user implementation is like power supply and connection to the SPI. (Serial Peripheral Interface) Ports are as simple as they allow system designers to reduce system development time by up to a year while saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in test equipment costs.

The ADIS16405 provides a 0.05° speed sensor quadrature calibration accuracy that not only improves the overall accuracy of the system, but also simplifies the design of the end system. The magnetometer sensor has been calibrated and aligned with the inertial sensor shaft. Extended calibration and dynamic compensation allow the product to provide angular random walks below 2.0°/√hr and temperature stability of 40 ppm/°C. All sensors are accessible via a standard SPI interface, which allows internal digital filtering to be controlled.

About the ADIS16300 iSensor Smart Sensor

The ADIS16300 complete inertial detection system incorporates a single-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer at a cost of only one-tenth the cost of comparable products. Each sensor in the ADIS16300 combines ADI's iMEMS technology with signal conditioning to deliver optimal dynamic performance. Factory calibration provides sensitivity, bias, alignment, and linear acceleration characteristics for each sensor. As a result, each sensor has its own dynamic compensation, allowing accurate sensor measurements from 4.75 V to 5.25 V. Like the ADIS16405, the factory calibration of the ADIS16300 dramatically reduces system integration time and reduces test equipment costs. The ADIS16300 features an improved SPI interface similar to the ADIS16405, providing faster data collection and configuration control.

The dynamic range of angular velocity detection is available in ±75, ±150, and ±300°/s options, with a dynamic range of ±3 g for triaxial acceleration. The ADIS16300 offers 350 Hz bandwidth, up to 1,200 SPS sample rate, and embedded and programmable digital filtering. The ADIS16300 is flexible to install and can easily detect roll and pitch axis angular speeds.

The ADIS16300 and ADIS16405 are compatible with other iSensor multi-axis inertial sensors, including the ADIS16365, ADIS16364, ADIS16355, ADIS16354, and ADIS16350.
