Daejeon's spring management

In the early stages of cultivation, it's essential to start irrigation as soon as possible in Qingshui. Early recovery of seedlings and bud development are key for Feifei varieties. During spring, when the soil thaws quickly and shallowly, it's important to break up compaction, loosen the soil, and level the field to remove weeds, pests, and dead leaves. This helps raise the ground temperature and encourages early growth of seedlings. If there are late-sown rapeseed fields or areas with insufficient planting at the end of February to early March, applying 6.5 tons of urea per mu is recommended. Light fertilization should be done on weak plants to promote their development and transformation. However, it's crucial not to over-fertilize or apply fertilizer too late, as this can lead to excessive vegetative growth, delayed maturity, and lodging. For plants that are already healthy, well-fed, and have received sufficient winter nutrients, timely field cultivation is still beneficial. Diseases such as virus disease, sclerotinia, white rust, and downy mildew must be monitored and controlled promptly. Insects like aphids and stem weevils are also common pests. With a warm winter and wet spring, especially when temperatures rise slowly, conditions become favorable for pest and disease outbreaks. It's particularly important to pay attention to boron levels in hybrid rapeseed varieties, as they are more sensitive to boron deficiency. A lack of boron can hinder the expression of heterosis. Similarly, phosphorus deficiency can affect nutrient accumulation, reduce grain filling, and increase the number of empty pods. To address these issues, spraying with boron and phosphorus in mid to late March is recommended. Mix 100 grams of borax and 100 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate in 50 kg of water, and apply it per mu. It’s best to combine this with pesticide application for better results. The mixture should include 100 grams of borax, 100 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 1000 grams of urea, 50 ml of omethoate or phoxim, and 50 kg of water. Dissolve all ingredients thoroughly before spraying. Spraying should be done on sunny afternoons for maximum effectiveness. This approach ensures balanced nutrition, pest control, and optimal growth conditions for the rapeseed crop.
