Peripheral vascular retrievable stents approved for clinical application

Release date: 2012-10-29

Recently, the vascular retractable stent developed by the research team led by Prof. Han Xinyu, a radiology department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, has been approved by the State Food and Drug Administration for clinical application. This marks the international level of Chinese vascular interventional therapy.
It is understood that partial or complete obstruction of large blood vessels (arteries or veins) caused by different causes can cause venous system congestion or distal ischemic symptoms of the arterial system. At present, the treatment methods mostly use balloon dilatation or permanent endovascular stent placement, but there are many limitations: for example, the balloon wall retraction after simple balloon dilatation is easy to re-stenosis; and the permanent stent Insertion, foreign body stimulation of the inner stent, hyperproliferation and restenosis of the vascular endothelial cells, damage to the vascular endothelial cells by the inner stent, exposure of thrombocytes under the subendothelial tissue, thrombosis, vascular restenosis, etc., leading to a series of problems such as stenosis and recurrence. The annual stenosis rate of the peripheral vascular stent is as high as 25%, and the annual restenosis rate of the venous system is higher.
In the Radiation Intervention Department of Zhengda First Affiliated Hospital, a regenerable filter-type intravascular stent was designed according to the shortcomings of the above-mentioned techniques and the anatomical features of the blood vessels, and obtained the national patent in 2006. After clinical application to more than 10 patients, the technical feasibility, safety and effectiveness of this recyclable stent were confirmed. Subsequently, the research team conducted a close follow-up study of all patients for 1 to 5 years, confirming the medium- and long-term safety and effectiveness of the inferior vena cava recoverable stent. A series of sufficient experimental studies and clinical studies have shown that it is safe, effective and reliable in the treatment of vascular stenosis and thrombosis. At the first International Conference on Vascular Surgery held in Miami in March 2012, Professor Han Xinwei made a speech on the topic of intravascular retrievable internal stents, which was strongly concerned by vascular surgeons from various countries.
According to reports, the intravascular retrievable stent is composed of a mesh cylindrical stent portion (also referred to as a main body portion) and an end tapered extraction portion (also referred to as a filter portion) and a hook at the top of the cone. It also has the characteristics of wear resistance, corrosion resistance and good tissue compatibility. Conical filters also effectively filter large thrombi that are crushed and detached. In clinical work, depending on the anatomy of the blood vessel and the characteristics of the lesion, a structure with a filter at one end or both ends may be adopted, and the stent portion may use one, two or more sections.
